If you’re looking for a way to jazz up your space with a bit of handmade charm, creating a DIY giant paper peony is the perfect project. Whether you’re planning a party or just want to add some serious style to your walls, this affordable and fun DIY will do the trick. Let’s dive in! You’ll follow this easy guide, inspired by a popular YouTube tutorial, and create your very own stunning paper flower masterpiece.

Materials Needed:

Recommended tools and supplies
• Crepe Paper (Coral & Yellow)
• Glue Gun
• Craft Scissors
• Cardboard Discs

    Step 1: Cutting the Petals

Start by cutting a 15 cm strip of coral crepe paper. Fold it in half and cut out a petal shape without cutting at the base—this keeps it as a double petal. Pinch the base to create a crease and apply a thin line of hot glue to secure the shape. Repeat for 10 petals using Template #1.

Step 2: Assembling the First Layer

Next, take your 20 cm cardboard base and glue the first layer of petals around the outer edge, about 3–4 cm from the perimeter. For each petal, apply glue to only half of the backside to ensure it stays in place. Continue gluing each petal slightly overlapping the last. Once all the petals are attached, gently fluff the petals to give them a more airy look.

Step 3: Adding the Second Layer

For the second layer, cut out 8 petals using Template #2. These should be slightly larger than the first set. Repeat the same process as the first layer, gluing these petals into the gaps between the first layer. This adds volume to the flower.

Step 4: Creating the Flower Center

Now, let’s move to the center of the peony. Cut a 20 x 30 cm strip of yellow crepe paper and fold it several times before cutting petals using Template #3. You’ll need 18–20 petals for the center. Once cut, glue them around the inner circle of your flower, leaving a little space in the middle for the fringe.

    Step 5: Adding the Fringe

For the final touch, take a 30 x 10 cm strip of yellow paper. Stretch it slightly and cut narrow strips along the edge to create a fringe. Roll the fringe with hot glue and attach it to the center of the flower. You can add more layers for extra fullness if desired.

Step 6: Adding a Wall Décor Hanger

If you want to hang your flower, attach a 15 cm wire to the back of the cardboard base. Twist it into place, and cover it with crepe paper for a neat finish. For a more polished look, feel free to cover the entire back with crepe paper.

    Final Touches

Fluff the petals gently for a more voluminous and airy appearance. Now, your giant paper peony is ready to hang on the wall or use as a décor piece for any special event.

This simple yet beautiful craft is a great way to bring some creative flair into your home. It also makes a perfect gift for anyone who loves DIY projects or floral decor.
