If you’ve got a pile of worn-out jeans and a love for cozy, rustic decor, this DIY project is about to become your new favorite. DIY denim coasters are quick, practical, and the perfect way to turn old denim into something useful and stylish. Whether you love clean, finished edges or the raw, frayed look, you can easily customize these DIY denim coasters to match your home’s vibe.

Transform your living space into a cozy retreat with DIY denim coasters—made from repurposed old jeans—and paired with comforting touches like a warm mug, an open book, and a knit blanket. Discover how to blend sustainability and style in your home décor.

What You’ll Need

  • Old jeans
  • Fabric scissors
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread
  • Optional: Hot glue gun
  • Optional: Felt backing for extra padding

Instructions

1. Cut Your Denim

  • Cut thick pieces of denim into matching circles or squares, about 4–5 inches wide.
  • You’ll need two pieces of denim for each coaster to create a sturdy base.

2. Layer and Secure

  • Stack two denim pieces together, wrong sides facing each other.
  • Pin them in place if needed to prevent shifting while sewing.

3. Sew the Edges

  • Stitch around the edge with a ¼-inch seam allowance.
  • Keep it simple with a straight stitch or get creative with a zigzag or decorative stitch.
  • If sewing isn’t your thing, you can also use a hot glue gun to secure the pieces, but sewing offers better durability.

4. Optional: Add a Backing

  • For extra grip and softness, you can glue or sew a piece of felt to the underside of each coaster.

5. Finishing Touches

  • Trim the edges if needed to neaten them up.
  • Embrace a slightly frayed look for that laid-back, farmhouse style.

A cheerful woman enjoys a sunny day outdoors in her suburban neighborhood, radiating warmth and relaxation.

Hi! I’m Lori Ballen. I’m a midlife creator who finds joy in home projects, cozy spaces, effortless style, and simple-but-delicious recipes. I started this lifestyle blog as my personal outlet—a place to create, explore, and share what I’m loving right now.

I live in Las Vegas and travel often, especially on solo adventures and cruises that feed my love for freedom and discovery. When I’m not writing or filming, I’m probably hanging out at home with my two adopted cats—one spunky and playful, the other a total lap lover. They’re constant companions in my quiet, creative life.

This blog is a reflection of that life—equal parts fun, functional, and full of soul. Whether you’re looking for a new DIY idea, a comfy outfit, or a quick dinner recipe, I hope you find inspiration here to create a home and lifestyle you love.
