You’ve seen them. Those woven, tasseled wall hangings that scream high-end Etsy shop or $80 boutique splurge. But what if I told you you could make one yourself for under $10—with yarn, scissors, and a stick from your backyard?

No weaving loom. No macrame knots. No stress. Just loop, trim, and hang. That’s it.

Discover how to create a stylish DIY Boho Wall Hanging using affordable Dollar Store supplies. Featuring cozy cream, brown, and rust yarns, this handcrafted decor proves chic accents don’t have to cost a fortune.

What You’ll Need

  • 2–3 skeins of yarn in neutral or earthy tones (I used cream, tan, and rust)
  • Scissors
  • A wooden dowel or a stick (seriously—go outside and find a good one)
  • Optional: comb for fringing, hot glue gun for added hold
  • Twine or string for hanging

Step 1: Cut Your Yarn

Grab your yarn and cut a bunch of strands roughly double the length you want your wall hanging to be. Don’t measure too precisely—variation adds to the boho feel. I cut about 40–50 strands in total, mixing the colors randomly.

Step 2: Loop Onto the Stick

Fold each strand in half, then use a simple lark’s head knot to attach it to the stick:

  1. Fold the strand to make a loop.
  2. Place the loop over the stick.
  3. Pull the two tail ends through the loop and tighten.

Repeat across the stick, alternating colors or doing solid blocks. Don’t worry if it looks uneven—it will.

Step 3: Trim the Bottom

Lay it flat and trim the bottom into a shape—angled, triangle, wavy, or freeform. I went with a soft V-shape. Use sharp scissors and just go for it. You can always trim more.

Step 4: Add Texture

Gently comb the yarn tails if you want a frayed, fringe-like texture. For a more polished look, leave them intact. You can also braid a few strands or tie off random sections to add character. Want to get fancy? Wrap a few pieces with contrasting yarn for an accent.

Step 5: Hang It Up

Tie a piece of twine or yarn to both ends of your stick and hang it on the wall. That’s it. Step back. Admire your work. Wonder why you ever considered buying one.

Final Notes

This wall hanging is endlessly customizable—change the shape, the size, the colors, the texture. Add beads, dried flowers, or a second layer. Keep it minimal or go wild. It’s your wall, your vibe, your $6 masterpiece.
