When I say this garland stopped me in my tracks, I’m not exaggerating. The soft sage trees, wooden stars, and rustic jute cord create that perfect cozy-meets-chic balance every holiday influencer seems to have mastered. The best part? You can make it yourself in under an hour — no fancy knots required. Let’s recreate this exact look using supplies straight from Amazon.

Watch how I turned cotton cord and wooden stars into this dreamy boho garland ✨ A cozy, boutique holiday accent you can make in under an hour — get all the steps & inspo here!

Shopping List

Shopping List:

  • 3 mm Natural Cotton Macramé Cord (approx. 109 yd) — use for the tassel tree layers
  • Jute Twine / Rustic Jute Cord — for the garland base and tying trunks
  • Unfinished Wooden Star Embellishments — to top each tassel tree
  • (Optional) Small Hot Glue Sticks — for securing stars
  • (Optional) Fine-tooth Comb or Small Wire Brush — to fluff tassel ends

How to Make the Twinkle Tassel Tree Garland

Step 1: Choose Your Colors & Prepare Cord

  • Select a muted sage, forest green, or soft neutral cotton cord.
  • Cut 8–12 strands per tree, with lengths varying (e.g. 6″, 8″, 10″) to give a layered branch effect.
  • Also cut a long length of jute twine (this will be your base “garland rope”). Leave extra at ends for hanging.

Step 2: Build Each Tree Using Lark’s Head Knots

  • Take a long jute twine segment or a sturdier cord as the “trunk line.”
  • Fold a green cord strand in half, place the loop below the trunk line, then pull the ends over and through the loop (classic lark’s head).
  • Attach multiple strands this way, spacing them evenly, beginning with the longest at the bottom and shorter toward the top.

Step 3: Taper & Shape the Tree

  • After knotting, trim the sides so that the shape is a triangle: the bottom row longest, the next slightly shorter, and so on upward.
  • Use small sharp scissors to carefully snip ends.
  • Optionally, gently comb or brush the ends to create a soft, feathery look.

Step 4: Create the Tassel Trunk

  • Gather the bottom ends of all the strands you used in one tree.
  • Tie them together neatly using a piece of jute twine, about ½” to 1″ up from the bottom.
  • Trim the tassel’s end so it hangs straight and even.

Step 5: Assemble the Garland

  • Lay your long jute twine (the base) flat.
  • Attach each tree by tying the trunk section to the base cord, spacing them about 2–4 inches apart (or your desired spacing).
  • Use small knots or a dab of hot glue behind the knot for extra hold.

Step 6: Add the Wooden Stars

  • Glue one wooden star right at the top of each mini tree (where the topmost green cords meet).
  • Press gently until set. You can also tie a very short piece of jute twine above the star to secure it to the garland base if needed.

Step 7: Final Touches & Hanging

Hang across your mantel, wall, or over a mirror. Let the tassel trees sway slightly for movement and texture.

Give the garland ends a little loop using the leftover jute — perfect for hanging on nails or hooks.

Inspect each tree — fluff the cord ends, trim stray fibers, adjust spacing.

There’s something so satisfying about turning basic cord and wooden stars into a decor piece that looks like it came from a boutique shop. This garland will layer beautifully with string lights or greenery for the holidays.

Use this in your living room, over a console, along a staircase — it brings cozy boho vibes wherever it hangs.
