Many writers love using Grammarly or ProWritingAid to enhance their writing and check for spelling mistakes. Various people use these software platforms, including professional writers, journalists, students, freelancers, and people working in the corporate world.

ProWritingAid is excellent for writers aiming for world-class grammar, punctuation, and structure. ProWritingAid isn’t as widely popular as Grammarly, but it’s growing in stature and becoming a popular platform.

If you’re looking for perfect writing that genuinely hits the mark, you’ll significantly benefit from using these writing enhancement tools. Nonetheless, which one is the best option for you? Let’s take a look!

Features

Both options have incredible features with excellent benefits, and many of the features are similar, and many are different. So, let’s contrast and compare.

Grammarly

  • Create your own personal dictionary: Grammarly allows users to add words to your dictionary. Generally speaking, Grammarly has an excellent range of slang words. If the platform doesn’t have those words, feel free to add them to the dictionary.
  • Passive voice: Although passive voice isn’t wrong or incorrect, your writing is better if you reduce the use of passive voice. Thankfully, Grammarly will highlight the use of passive voice and encourage you to rearrange to active voice.
  • Wordiness: Non-professional writers often have a habit of using too many words. Grammarly will highlight wordy sentences and encourage you to reduce the word number.
  • Repetition: It’s straightforward to repeat the exact words throughout an article and leave yourself sounding boring. Grammarly will highlight the words you’re using too much and offer alternative words to make your writing more concise.
  • Software plugins: One of Grammarly’s most significant benefits is using the software on Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Google Chrome.
  • Plagiarism: The ultimate energy of writers is plagiarism. If you’re writing for clients, you’ll want copy-free writing that won’t catch you out on Copyscape. Nevertheless, Grammarly has a plagiarism checker to ensure your writing is unique.
  • Spelling mistakes: The last thing any writer, office worker, or student wants is an article filled with spelling mistakes. Grammarly will quickly detect spelling mistakes and ensure that you eradicate spelling errors
  • Change the type of English: It’s easy to forget that there are different ways of writing English worldwide. Luckily for Grammarly users, you can alternate from U.S English to British English to ensure you’re using the correct grammar and spelling.

ProWritingAid

  • Context-sensitive style guide: You can effortlessly find the best style of writing for your article. ProWritingAid will ensure that the technique flows through all your writing.
  • Visualize sentence lengths and differences: If you’re writing articles based on SEO, you’ll want short sentences that increase readability. Thankfully for users, ProWritingAid will help you write short sentences.
  • Overused words: Grammarly is excellent for identifying overused and repetitive phrases, but so is ProWritingAid. The software will automatically catch any redundant words and help make your writing clearer.
  • Human proofreader: If you don’t have time to proofread your work, you can get a human to proofread your work at the touch of a button.
  • Readability: It doesn’t matter if you’re writing an Ebook, an article, or copywriting for a company; you’ll want high readability. ProWritingAid is fantastic because it enables you to gauge and improve on readability for all audiences.
  • Spot echoes: One of the most significant benefits of using ProWritingAid is the potential to see echoes in your writing.
Many writers love using Grammarly or ProWritingAid to enhance their writing and check for spelling mistakes. Various people use these software platforms, including professional writers, journalists, students, freelancers, and people working in the corporate world.

What are the main differences between the two brands?

Grammarly

Grammarly is fantastic if you’re looking for efficient and easy-to-use software. There are lots of free features, and you can do a lot without paying for a premium package. Another incredible difference is the compatibility with other platforms.

You can use Grammarly with total ease on various Microsoft and Apple software, and it’s more efficient than ProWritingAid regarding usage on other platforms. Let’s look at some of the main advantages and disadvantages of Grammarly

Advantages

  • Easy to use
  • It helps boost your style of writing
  • It offers a quick yet efficient check of your writing
  • It can help users increase their vocabulary.
  • It gives genre-specific suggestion abilities.

Disadvantages

  • It does not offer a free trial of the paid version
  • Not every feature is available on Apple software
  • The free version doesn’t help you with advanced writing
  • The MS office extension on the browser doesn’t work with Grammarly
  • You can only detect plagiarism on the paid Grammarly version

ProWritingAid

ProWritingAid is a fantastic option, but it tends to be better for those writing longer texts. If you’re really looking to improve your writing, you’ll adore the fact it offers more than 20 different reports on improving your writing.

The feedback is more comprehensive than even Grammarly premium, but the software isn’t as slick or efficient. Grammarly is perfect for those people who write emails and short articles, and ProWritingAid could be better suited for those looking to build a professional writing career. Let’s look at the main advantages and disadvantages of ProWritingAid.

Advantages

  • ProWritingAid works on Microsoft and Apple software products
  • The software offers intense feedback and can really improve writing
  • The platform works with Google Docs, a considerable benefit from many freelance writers.
  • ProWritingAid is better for integration options, offering more than Grammarly
  • They offer a unique lifetime plan, so you’ll only have to pay once

Disadvantages

  • The software is slow to edit at times
  • There is no mobile application, so you can’t use it to text or send emails via mobile.
  • The crawling process can be a lot slower
  • You can only check for copyright issues with the premium plan
  • They only offer the browser extension on Google Chrome.

How does the pricing compare?

If you purchase a Grammarly premium package for one year, you’ll pay an average of $12 per month. Alternatively, you can opt for the monthly option, but you’ll spend an average of $29 per month.

Moreover, Grammarly offers a $19 quarterly plan. In general, Grammarly is far cheaper if you pay for the premium plan yearly. If you’re a professional writer, you’ll probably do that, but if you’re not a writer, you might opt for the free option.

ProWritingAid has four different pricing structures. The cost of an entire year on ProWritingAid is $59, considerably cheaper than Grammarly. Also, ProWritingAid offers a monthly plan at $20.

A lifetime ProWritingAid plan will cost you over $224, but you’ll never have to pay again. If you compare this to Grammarly, which charges around $120 per annum, you’ll save hundreds if not thousands over the years by using ProWritingAid.

Final Thoughts

Both software packages are fantastic for writers of all abilities and professions. You can use Grammarly for free, and if you’re only sending emails and basic letters, that should be more than enough for you.

If you’re looking to master your craft and become a world-class writer, you’ll prefer using ProWritingAid because of its vast feedback options and stylistic advice. You won’t get the same stylistic advice on Grammarly, but it will work well for many basic needs.

If you’re someone who writes a lot and writes on various platforms, including Google Docs, MS Word, and multiple emails and letters, you’ll prefer Grammarly. But if you’re looking to write slower long-form books or articles, you’ll choose ProWritingAid.

Either way, your writing will improve.
